Choosing which direction to take after leaving school is a big decision.
We’re here to support our students and make sure they know about all the options open to them. Our curriculum focusses on careers, and we provide our students with meaningful career-related opportunities and activities throughout their time with us.
At the Greater Horseshoe School, we believe that a carefully-planned careers programme is essential to support pupils to;
- choose pathways and next steps that are suited to them
- have high aspirations
- plan to sustain employability throughout their lives.
Our provision is based on the Gatsby benchmarks. We have a cross-curricular approach to careers as well as specific objectives taught in futures lessons. We follow the incredible futures curriculum, which is linked to AQA awards with our younger learners, moving onto a City and Guilds Entry Level 3 qualification in years 10 + 11. This in turn leads onto a Level 1 City and Guilds qualification in Employability Skills. Throughout all of these stages careers progression is evidenced and cross curricular links occur across other subjects taught at the school.
Our pupils are offered individualised work experience placements (following OFG safety checks) and vocational options in Year 10, 11 and Post 16 depending on their strengths and preferences. These are documented through work experience booklets to evidence development and successes and to allow pupils to self-evaluate.
We work alongside our regional Careers Advisor for OFG (Oli Masters) and Careers South West who both offer independent careers advice to the Year 7 and above students.
